Jan 9th:Anne Forrest gave a talk and presented a slide show demonstrating the work of her late husband, Edwin V Forrest, a renowned artist from Trefriw. Ed and Anne Forrest (nee Thompson, of Penmaenmawr) moved to Trefriw in 1978 with their 3-year old daughter, Kate. Ed Forrest was of Welsh/Manx parentage and for a number of years he was curator of the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead, moving to Trefriw when he took early retirement. He came from a working class background and his parents were unable to afford to provide him with a formal art education. However he studied at the Laird School of Art and the Liverpool School of Art. He trained as an ecclesiastical and lettering artist in his
grandfather’s painting and decorating business. In 1958 Ed was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy and he continued to follow the British tradition of landscape painting. He exhibited at the RCA in Conwy and most of the major towns and cities in England and Wales. His work is to be found in collections in Britain, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, USA, Canada and
South America.

Jean Lane gave a very entertaining talk about her role as a hostess at
Denman College, recounting humorous stories of her experiences but also reminding us all that Denman is there for us to use and how the college relies upon both members and non-members to maintain the wide variety of course available to enjoy. On May 25th we hosted a Coffee Morning for the newly formed Community Library. It was a good event, and we raised £300 for them which was a great contribution.

October 2013
Carol and David Halsted were the speakers at the October meeting, and gave a graphic talk about their trip around the world which took them seventy seven days. Members enjoyed the Federation Fashion Show on October 2nd given by EWM at the St. Georges Hotel in Llandudno, who provided an excellent afternoon tea. Three of our members were models, and had a great time.
One of our members has agreed to run a keep fit class on Tuesdays, so we are hoping to be younger and healthier looking. The Home Economics group held their International evening on October 9th, each member brought a dish, and members tried food from different countries, wonderful stuff, but it negated the keep fit for that week.
