Olwen Jones (1938-2014)
We were all saddened to hear of the sudden death of Olwen, she was an enthusiastic and active member of our Institute, taking a keen interest in all aspects of the WI movement.
During her years as President she encouraged us to‘have a go’ at some of the sporting activities, croquet, darts and bowling. Olwen was also voted onto the Gwynedd-Caernarfon Executive Committee and was for a number of years Federation Treasurer, she also became a V.C.O (Voluntary County Organizer) as it called then, visiting several Institutes in the Federation at their annual meetings.
We shall remember Olwen for the years of service she gave to the W.I and we shall miss her at our meetings.
Olwen can be seen in the photographs below: in the newspaper cutting she is seated front row, third from the left; in the second phograph she us seen being presented with her prize as second overall winner in one of the Dwygyfylchi WI annual competitions.
